They are made of an elastic spandex-type fabric with recessed, pure tin electrodes attached to the fabric. The electrodes on the standard caps are positioned to the International 10-20 method of electrode placement.
The cap is ordered as a "Custom Cap". We'll need to know which placement the customer prefers for the reference, usually FCZ, CPZ, or POZ. In addition to the 10/20 placements, the cap also has dropped wires for A1 and A2. This cap has two short ear leads that are typically used with the 3 1/2" E5-9S-Drops EEG ear-clips. (E5-9S-Drops not included - short ear leads)
Sizes in age are approximate; the patient should always be measured to determine proper eeg cap size. FCZ is most commonly used reference.
EEG caps for use with Deymed's TruScan32 system: See attached image file. The image is from ECI and shows which electrode sites connect to which physical pin of the connector on the multi-colored ribbon cable of ECI's standard 19-channel cap. Under the support tab it shows which electrode sites connect to which pin # of the connector on the multi-colored ribbon cable of Deymed's standard 19-channel cap.
If you look at the connector , you'll see that the physical pins on the connector are labeled with #s from 1 to 25.
The connections between electrode sites and pins are the same for ECI and Deymed, except that ECI uses AFz for Ground and has no Reference electrode, and Deymed uses AFz for Reference and adds an extra electrode at FCz for the ground: Site Pin# ECI Deymed AFz 9 Ground Reference FCz 13 n/a Ground In order to get a cap from ECI that will work with the Deymed TruScan32, send them the ECI diagram that I've attached, and ask them to make the appropriately-sized cap with the extra electrode at FCz that connects to pin # 13.

What is the best way to clean the caps? Can we use gentle soap? Can antibacterial product or soap be used ? Thank you!
there are two manufacturer- approved cleaning methods — Ivory soap and Metricide liquid. The latter sterilizes the cap should there be a suspicion of contagious pathogen. The benefit of using these is that the manufacturer will service the caps only if they’ve been cleaned according to direction. A re-wire of a cap is $40 if you’ve been consistent with cleaning with Ivory. If not, you’re stuck buying a new cap!
As far as how to clean, using lukewarm water and a Q-tip works well. In offices that have a kitchen sink with a scouring hose, this works really well. The key is to be careful not to pull at the cap and wires, but to make sure the saline is rinsed free.
Also, be sure not to get the plug wet, either by dunking it in water or letting water run down the cord. Finally, if the cap has ear drops, be sure to clean the cap with the ear cables connected in order to keep water out of this area as well.
