IVA+Plus (IVA) is a combined auditory and visual continuous performance test designed to measure objectively the triad of symptoms - inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity - associated with ADHD and to help the clinician make an accurate diagnosis of ADHD.
Following the diagnostic criteria outlined in the DSM-IV, IVA+Plus provides data to help the clinician diagnose and differentiate between the four sub-types of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD, Predominantly Inattentive Type (formerly called ADD), ADHD Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type, ADHD Combined Type, and ADHD Not Otherwise Specified.
The main test task, which lasts approximately thirteen minutes, presents 500 trials of "1"s and "2"s in a pseudo-random pattern requiring the shifting of sets between the visual and auditory modalities. The subject is required to click the mouse only when he sees or hears a "1" and to inhibit clicking when he sees or hears a "2." During some segments of the test, the "1"s are more common than the "2"s, creating a response set which "pulls" for errors of commission, or impulsivity. During alternate segments of the test, the "1"s occur rarely; this invites more errors of omission, or inattention, since the subject must remain vigilant while he waits for a "1" to occur.
Well-normed...The IVA+Plus (IVA) normative group (N=1700) is divided by gender and grouped by age as follows: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-18, 19-21, 22-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-54, 55-65, 66-96. The database is gathered from various areas of the United States, and diverse ethnic groups are represented. The normative group is comprised only of individuals without known attention, learning, neurological or psychological problems.
IVA+Plus...Many insurance companies recognize the validity of Continuous Performance Tests (CPT) in clarifying the diagnosis of ADHD. Some insurance companies require any psychological testing to be pre-approved and it may be necessary to provide documentation regarding the reasons for the testing. If testing using IVA+Plus is questioned, IVA+Plus validity and reliability studies are documented in the IVA+Plus Interpretation Manual, and permission is granted to registered users to copy these studies for obtaining reimbursement of services.
Effective January 1st, 2006, CPT codes for billing have changed. Billing procedures now require different codes depending upon who performed the testing the clinician, a technician, or solely computer based testing.

96101 - Psychological testing, interpretation and reporting per hour by a psychologist. Billed as 1 unit per hour. Includes test administration, interpretation, and report writing. Typically billed 3-4 units and up to 6 units is usually covered.
96102 - Psychological testing per hour by a technician.
96103 - Psychological testing by a computer, including time for the psychologists interpretation and reporting.
96118 - Neuropsychological Test, Interpretation and Reporting per hour by a psychologist. Billed as 1 unit per hour. Includes I.Q., memory, attention, problem solving, processing speed, mental flexibility and other neuropsychological tests. Typically billed as 6-7 units.
96119 - Neuropsychological testing per hour by a Technician
96120 - Neuropsychological testing by a computer, including time for the psychologist's interpretation and reporting.
