Sensor mounted in the cuff detects arterial wall motion and audible as well as inaudible Korotkoff vibrations. Detection of Korotkoff vibrations instead of just sounds enables measurements in hypotensive patients.

The SD700A system employs a rugged, low frequency sensor mounted in the cuff to detect arterial wall motion and audible as well as inaudible Kerotkoff vibrations. A special frequency filter identifies specific vibrations associated with obstructed blood flow between the systolic and diastolic pressure range. The filtered signals correlate closely with those obtained by the standard auscultatory method using a stethoscope. In addition to arterial pressure measurements, the unit always detects oscillometric pressure surges within the cuff bladder, converts to an average pulse rate, and displays in bright digital read-outs. With the use of an optical plethysmographic finger sensor, the pulse rate can be monitored continuously except during the brief period when a blood pressure measurement is made.

USEFUL AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS The SD700A system has a built-in audio-filter amplifier which allows the audible portion of the Kortkoff vibration being presented as Korotkoff sounds similar to those heard from a stethoscope. This exclusive feature, together with the pulse rhythm light, helps medical personnel assure themselves that the instrument is providing accurate and reliable measurements. Alternatively, a beep tone can be selected which appears after each heart beat between the systolic-diastolic pressure range. There is, in addition, a 2-second beep tone signaling the end of each measurement. To guard against false reading and faulty procedure, the instrument illuminates a TEST INCONCLUSIVE error indicator when conditions, such as inadequate inflation, improper cuff placement, absence of signal, exceedingly rapid deflation and excessive noise, exist.

BATTERY AND LINE OPERATION The SD700A can be operated online power or on built-in rechargeable batteries.

PROGRAMMABLE TEST CYCLE Blood pressure measurements are performed automatically at pre-determined intervals. The sampling time can be selected from 0.5 to 60 minutes in discrete steps.

AUTOMATIC INFLATION Cuff inflation is accomplished by a quiet pump powered by a DC motor. Inflation rate is typically 20 to 40 mmHg/sec. The maximum inflation pressure can be manually set. In the "AUTO" mode, the cuff is always inflated to an appropriate pressure level in reference to the previous systolic measurement. The inflation pressure is also automatically re-adjusted should the blood pressure vary suddenly.

ELECTRONIC DEFLATION RATE CONTROL Feedback circuitry maintains the selected deflation rate accurately, regardless of the cuff size. (Pediatric, Standard, Obese).

RAPID SYSTOLIC PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS When CYCLE TIME control is in "SYST". mode, only systolic pressure in measured and displayed in rapid succession.

MANUAL INTERCEPT Automatic cycling can be interrupted by activating the foot control switch (optional) to obtain an instant measurement.

BUILT-IN SAFETY Internal isolation transformer practically eliminates all hazards associated with line operation. Other patient safegards include rapid air pressure dumping in the event of power failure or excessive and prolonged cuff occlusion. Power source meets both U.S.A. and Canadian electrical standards.
