  • AAPB 2021 Webinar 6: General Introduction to Biofeedback Peripherals
    WEBINAR

This workshop is for researchers and health professionals who want to learn how to use peripheral biofeedback technology. The modalities that will be the focus of the session are Surface Electromyography (SEMG), Respiration, Temperature, Skin Conductance, Heart Rate (from blood volume pulse and electrocardiogram), and Heart Rate Variability. A general overview of the physiological basis for each peripheral measurement will be demonstrated. Participants will participate in a "hands on" demonstration experience (to the extent of a virtual workshop setting) using the different modalities in conjunction with audio and visual multimedia biofeedback displays.

  • Co-regulation of HRV by Prosocial Emotions and Resonance Frequency Breathing Co-Regulation of HRV by Prosocial Emotions
    AAPB WEBINAR

Sign up here. Cardio-respiratory function is coupled with brainstem control of baroreceptor reflex. Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRVB) based on resonance frequency breathing (RFB, ~0.1 Hz or 6 breaths per minute) can normalize autonomic regulation and increase baroreflex gain because autonomic function is frequency dependent on respiration. The addition of so-called ‘Positive Emotions’ such as gratitude or compassion to RFB to enhance HRV has been called into question by many practitioners and researchers. Recently, the Polyvagal-Informed Therapy movement has advocated the value of incorporating prosocial emotions and feelings of safety such as gratitude, compassion, and kindness into therapies of behavioral disorders such as: Compassion Meditation; Mindfulness, Acceptance, and Compassion; Emotional Awareness and Expression; and Awe and Humanistic-Existential. This webinar will explore questions about the psychophysiological effects of emotional regulation on HRV and baroreceptor reflex gain as part of autonomic self-regulation treatments of clinical disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain.

  • Improing Attention and Decreasing Anxiety using Neurofeedback and Biofeedback
    AAPB WEBINAR

This presentation will describe efficient and accurate assessments, single and two channel or 19-channel EEG plus other physiological measures as done at the ADD Centre. The assessment guides effective intervention for children, adolescents and adults for those with ADHD, attentional issues, anxiety and co- morbidities, and athletes wishing to optimize performance. The intervention targets Neural Networks. It is multimodal and combines neurofeedback (NFB) (single, two, and 19 channel NFB) with biofeedback, especially heart rate variability training (HRV). Clients can range from children who underachieve in school to entrepreneurs who are successful but frustrated by never getting their paperwork done and having difficulty listening in meetings. Presented by Lynda Thompson, PhD

  • Everything You Need to Know About EEG, but Were Afraid to Ask: Caps, Equipment, Software, Room, Chairside Manner, Reading in the Raw...EEG, Artifacting & Interpretation
    AAPB WEBINAR

This workshop is intended for those interested in getting into full-head EEG recordings and qEEG analysis plus those who have been doing EEG and qEEG, but never had good training or guidance and would like to confirm if one is doing it right. Further insights on how to read a raw EEG is something that everyone can improve on. Also, many examples of the signatures of a variety of clinical conditions will be shown. Presented by Dave Siever, CET
