Electro-Gel is a water-based conductive gel formulated for Electro-Cap EEG caps and other reusable surface electrodes, providing low impedance and stable EEG/EP/brain-mapping recordings.
Electro-Gel Key Benefits
- Optimized for EEG caps to reduce artifacts and maintain low impedance.
- Proven signal stability with pH ~4.5, viscosity ~350 cps, and balanced water solubility for
smooth application and lasting adhesion.
- Water-based formula that's easy to apply and clean off with water.
- Non-drying to maintain conductivity throughout long recording sessions.
- Safe and non-toxic for use on all skin types.
When to use
Electro-Gel is used whenever a low-impedance connection between the electrode and the scalp is required for
high-quality EEG or evoked potential recordings. It's specifically formulated for use with Electro-Cap systems
but
is also suitable for other reusable and cap-based electrode applications.
Electro-Gel is ideal for:
- Routine EEG recordings - clinical, research, and neurofeedback applications
- Quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain mapping - where low, consistent impedances across multiple
sites
are essential
- Evoked potential (EP) procedures - including auditory, visual, and somatosensory EP studies
- Sleep studies and polysomnography (PSG) - to maintain stable electrode contact overnight
- Biofeedback and neurotherapy sessions - for reliable signal acquisition
- Any cap-based multi-channel EEG setup - when convenience, clean signal, and participant
comfort
matter
Application Instructions
- Prepare the scalp and ensure the area is clean and dry. Apply Nuprep Skin
Preparation Gel if
needed to lower impedance.
- Load the syringe with Electro-Gel using a blunt needle or applicator tip.
- Apply the gel through each electrode opening until the tip touches the scalp, then press
out a
small amount to create good contact.
- Avoid excess and use only enough gel to maintain contact, as too much can spread the signal
area and reduce the distance between electrodes.
Tip: Contain the gel with a sponge disk around the electrode when there is little or no hair to
help
prevent spreading.
Cleaning Instructions
Cleaning from Hair & Skin
- Rinse the skin or hair with warm water as soon as possible after use.
- Apply mild soap or shampoo and gently massage to loosen any residue.
- Rinse thoroughly and repeat if needed until the gel is fully removed.
- Pat dry with a towel avoiding harsh scrubbing or very hot water.
Cleaning from Caps & Electrodes
- Immediately rinse the cap and electrodes with lukewarm water to prevent the gel from
drying.
- Add a small amount of Ivory® or Palmolive® liquid detergent to the water.
- Gently clean the fabric and electrode cavities with your fingers or a soft cloth, avoiding
the connectors.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Allow the cap to air-dry completely before storing or reusing.
