When to Use
Reach for Medline cotton-tipped applicators whenever you need accurate placement, targeted absorption, or access to small or recessed sites.
- Skin prep and cleansing prior to injections, IV starts, or minor procedures
- Applying ointments, solutions, or antiseptics to localized areas
- Specimen collection and point-of-care testing per facility protocol
- Wound care tasks requiring gentle debridement or precise topical placement
- General clinic use where a sterile, single-use swab is indicated
Application Instructions
- Open one pouch and remove a single applicator.
- Prep EEG sites: dip in approved skin-prep (e.g., mild abrasive gel) and scrub the mark in small circles for 5-10
seconds to lower impedance; avoid over-abrading.
- Wipe residue with gauze and let skin dry; for adhesive electrodes, ensure the site is completely dry.
- With a fresh applicator, load a small amount of conductive paste/gel into cup/disc electrodes (or directly on
skin if protocol allows); never cross-dip between products or patients.
- Seat electrodes and tidy edges, smoothing excess and keeping gel off hairline/ears for easier removal.
- Verify impedances; touch up with a new applicator as needed. Replace any swab that contacts a non-sterile
surface.
- At reference/ground or sensitive areas, use light pressure and minimal product to reduce artifacts.
- Discard each applicator after single use per facility policy; do not reuse between sites or patients.
Safety Information
- For external use only; do not insert into body cavities beyond visible, safe limits
- Do not reuse; compromised sterility may increase infection risk
- Discontinue use if tip unravels or if irritation occurs
- Follow facility protocols for specimen handling and infection control
Storage and handling
- Store in a cool, dry place; keep pouches sealed until use
- Protect from moisture and crushing to maintain package integrity
- Check expiration date and packaging before use; discard if damaged or opened
